Speed painting might not be the correct term, but I do not have a better term for it.

I think this is a new art type caused by Web 2.0 technologies like YouTube. Paint artists are drawing pictures and create movies about the painting progress. This is seriously the first time I would wish I had a projection system to watch those videos on a big wall. I personally appreciate the innovative part of showing creativity.

How to get organized in a connecting world

I realize that networking and especially knowledge management is really important. Task lists are growing and time is just running away. I hope that the internet idea will allow me and others to share the things which can be shared to become more efficient in what we would like to do. You can name those internet things: hype, stupid, brilliant or funny. But one thing is for sure, such services will grow. Why? "The key for independence is a central service provider!".

Anyway, here are networking services I am using from time to time

Blog MiningDrugs, JoergsWorld, Technorati, YouTube
I am not a big blogger, but I like it and will continue doing it. I splitted my blogs in a personal and a scientific part. For the categorization I use Technorati. I think I will not start creating video blogs at YouTube, but I really like this social and emotional side of the technical internet.

Quite nice, but a separation in business and private links would be appreciated. I do not want to share everything.

In general this idea is not bad, but in fact I prefer my private JabRef literature database in combination with my own LaTeX summaries. For general cross-linking and todo lists I use the MindManager mind mapping tool, especially because it allows to create Word reports and File-bundles from all linked files.

This is ways better than trying to synchronize all business and private adress books, unfortunately the service does not allow private shared entries from users which do not want to subscribe. In other words I have still to maintain several adress books.

I am a Wikipedian and proud of it, the cross-linking is just great! This is true knowledge management and might become more and more business relevant, too. At least that what I hope, since Wiki's might have the potential to be literature management, content management and mind mapping in one.

I am of-course a big Skype fan and have everything in place, like skype-in and skype-out. Beside I have the standard ICQ, MSN, AIM, and Yahoo chat accounts using Trillian, but I prefer Skype. And I am quite fast in blocking users, because my time is limited to talk to everybody.

I hate spam and the only way to deal with it is having a web.de account by using multiple spam filters with white-lists. And anything else will be taken care of by my locally installed junk filtering system. If I am not answering your mails ... then just give me a call, since there is always a chance being filtered out.

Yes I have one, but I do not like it because it is so ridiculous expensive for calling people abroad. And we are talking about an internationally connecting world, not the friend next door.

Fishing for mackerel, cod, and plaice

Yesterday we went sea fishing with rods near Oostende.

We mainly catched: cod, mackerel, and some plaice. Although we were all a little bit tired (I leaved my apartment at 4.45 a.m.), three of us decided to eat four of the smaller fish at the same evening. We started cooking at 8.45 p.m., and had an extremely delicious meal and a brilliant evening. Overall a very successful and recreational day.

After a few weeks without a working internet connection I am now back online, again.
Incredible, during that time Skype 2.0 was released, supporting already a web-cam. The quality is incredible good.

Beside of that I have found out that the Wikipedia-Wiki supports users boxes and I have used the layout of the user Ian13.

And I really like my job at Tibotec (new web page) and I am missing my wife.

That is a streaming video music channel in German, organized from private people. My favorite DJ's are Dreihaar, Muckel, and Nasiii. See here for actual server status pop-radio.de. The web page is not the best, but the music is very good, if you choose your favorite DJ and the right time. It supports WinAmp video and radio streams and an IRC chat.

The photo section of my homepage was heavily extended. It contains now wallpapers with a higher resolution (1600x1200) and also more pictures and every picture contains EXIF/IPTC informations. This was possible by combining the programs: Picasa, JAlbum, and Exifer.

Some impressions after arriving Mechelen. It is really a cute town, and I am really glad that my accommodation is in the centre of the city. I can reach anything I need by strolling around.

The tour was exhausting, because there were a lot of road work with speed limits. And a lot of them caused traffic jams. My plan was to arrive Mechelen in six hours, but I needed eight and a half from Tübingen to Mechelen. The route ran over Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Aachen, Brüssel. Two things confused me. First, the main classification for the highways in Belgium is not A-and-a-number, but E-and-a-number. Maybe it is only a small difference, but it might be time consuming, because the larger signs use all an E instead of an A. Second, there exists also a small town Machelen on the same route. Do not use that gateway, that is simply not correct.

Leaving Tübingen was hard, I have leaved a lot friends and my wife. And it is not easy to find out, that it is a big difference between the theoretical and the practical possibility to hug somebody.

Temporary accommodation

Now I have a temporary accommodation, yippie! It's directly in Mechelen and will be directly paid by the company for the next two months, wow! This will be the time the relocation agency needs to find another suitable apartment for me.

I have also installed Skype, a real P2P VoIP tool I can heavily recommend for cheap international phone calls. The only thing you will need is a good internet connection. It was also recommended by the German "Computerzeitung" (35/2005, original article).

New job, new challenges

I have got the one year post-doc position at Tibotec, Belgium. So I have to learn Dutch and also some French. Well, that's not bad, I like new challenges and it's a Research&Development (R&D) position, that's marvellous. And beside all of those challenges I have to prepare for the exams for finishing my PhD until I will got the corrections for my thesis of my supervisor, so I guess I would be really busy for next few months ... anyway, I try to update this Blog at least once in a week. So, take care ... and stay tuned ...At the moment I try to organize the relocation, but being honest it's more a chaos management, but I think that's completely normal if you have no clue about what is coming next ...
